In Recife, a bigger city on Brasil's north-east coast, you can find a rather unconventional Sports Team. A dozen of kids has decided to "run" their way out of the Favela. Therefore, a social worker has set up an athletics initiative.
They have started with the most simple equipment: Barefoot-sprinting through the city park. Jumping in old trousers over self-made hurdles. Facing high-jumps without having special tools for it.
This great deal of ambition and determination has impressed us. And we could simply not let this be unrewarded. So, together with decent sports shoes and tricots came along the success of the "Equipe Brazil". That's how the newcomers prouldy named themselves.
By now, they can also call themselves State Champions and look back on numerous victories. This surely proofs: "Where there's a will, there's a way."
On who knows where their ambition is leading them to: The next Olympics are coming for sure.....
